Merry Christmas!
I had so much fun this morning. I love Christmas even if it is a little exhausting. And, no matter what the pictures may look like - I was NOT trying to kill Jackson by strangling him with his own Christmas scarf. I was just trying to have fun, but I got in trouble 'cause I wouldn't let go of his scarf!

Another Duraflame log?
Some of you may remember that I have eaten a Duraflame log before (just so you know...it didn't go so well for me). Well, a few nights ago my mom and dad were acting very "sneaky" about something in the fireplace. They actually locked me out of the living room while they "took care of something"! As soon as they let me back in the living room, I was able to figure out what they were hiding from me - another Duraflame log!! Can you believe it? I LOVE these logs! Although, I have never tasted one that was on fire before...I just stood there, licking my lips and wimpering at the log. I tried to move the fireplace screen out of the way with my paw, but my parents told me to "Leave it alone!" Clearly, they don't know how good a Duraflame log tastes...well, until it starts to come back up...

Attempting to forge new relationships...
I attempted to talk to Kramer about this video...he was not receptive to the idea that we can ever be more than "housemates". Hmmm....does anyone have any ideas for me to try? I just don't understand why Kramer hates me so much. I try, and I try, and I try...but he just hates me!

Just sayin'....
I really don't like the big 'ol orange tabby cat in this picture. He attacks me anytime I get excited or even try to walk by him! Well, today I snuck up on him and my favorite playtoy (Biloxi) and snapped this photo. I would just like to point out that people like to say I'm big-boned! Hopefully this picture will help them see who is really "big-boned" in our family! PS...don't let Kramer know I posted this picture for everyone to see; I don't need him attacking me anymore than he already does!

Happy Halloween!!!
My mom told me that Halloween is this weekend. I don't really know much about Halloween, but my mom bought me a new outfit to wear for the occasion, so it must be a good thing. My mom also told me that "little people" will probably come to our house for treats on Saturday. I think that is a great idea - I love treats! In fact, I got to eat a special treat today....my dad's cell phone. He didn't seem too happy with me. I guess he doesn't understand how tasty cell phones are.

G.R.E.A.T
Tonight my mom told me she met 2 wonderful ladies from G.R.E.A.T - the Golden Retriever Emergency Assistance Team - at the Cummer Museum's reception honoring The Dogs of Riverside and Avondale. My mom was overjoyed that my dad agreed to adopt/foster another Golden in December 2009. I'm not sure exactly what that means, but I think it means I get another playmate!! I am so excited! My mom tells me she is so excited to be affiliated with this wonderful group and is happy to help in any way. She was a little emotional tonight when she told me and Jackson the story of how we came to be rescued. It's been soooo long that I forgot my "old life". Now, Jackson and I play all day long and we love to snuggle and wrestle with our parents! We especially love our backyard (even though I am allergic to grass and most oak trees in our neighborhood). We sure do like living in Avondale!!! I would like to ask everyone to take a moment to support GREAT! Who knows, you may be supporting my new brother or sister!
The Dogs of Riverside and Avondale
Tonight my mom and dad are going to a reception for the book The Dogs of Riverside and Avondale, which features a story about me and my brother! My mom says the book is really good - full of wonderful stories about dogs in our neighborhood. I made sure to remind my mom to bring my business cards advertising this blog. I figure the more people who know about my misadventures the better! http://thedogsofriversideandavondale.com/

Celebri-doggies!!!!
My mom told me that Jackson and I were featured in the Florida Times Union's Pet of the Day on Friday.
Check us out: http://jacksonville.com/interact/blog/deirdre_conner/2009-08-07/cold_noses_friday_pet_of_the_day
She said that a lot of people now want Jackson and I to sign our page in The Dogs of Riverside and Avondale. Well, Jackson just lept at the chance for notoriety. I, on the other hand, demanded that we enter a contract whereby we would receive some type of compensation for our sought after autographs! Finally, Jackson and I came to terms with our new found celebrity: we are now accepting treats and belly rubs for an autograph. Sounds like a great agreement to me! Let us know if you want our autograph....

New Summer Haircut
Luckily for me my mom gave me a new haircut. I sure did have a lot of hair before my new 'do. I get so excited when I hear the sound of the clippers. And, my mom says I am a GOOD girl when I get my haircut. I love getting my summer cut - I lay real still for my mom.

Did somebody say walk?!
Before I hurt my leg I used to get to go on walks with my brother Jackson. We love walks. As soon as we see the leashes we go C-R-A-Z-Y! My brother and I start jumping all over the place and running back and forth to the front door. Jackson gets so happy that he drags me around by my leash and harness. I hate it when he does that! My mom tells us to settle down but she just doesn't understand! Walks are exciting!

Lazy Days of Summer

Summer Time is Here!
My mom and dad bought new trees and shrubs to plant along our back fence. So, I decided to help. I even sat in the freshly dug holes so they would be safe. My dad kept telling me I was in the way, but I wasn't - I was helping! The best part about planting new trees -earthworms! They are a
delicious little treat that you have to watch closely for. Sometimes they bury themselves in the dirt so you have to dig your nose around in the soil for a while before you come up with one - but, boy the extra work is worth the effort. The only bad part? They make my mouth slimy and I start to drool. I love summer time!

Spring Is In The Air & So Are Baby Birds!
About 1 week into my ACL injury I was outside at 7:00am with my mom. She had just gotten out of the shower and had her hair all wrapped up in a towel. She was telling me to "go potty" for the 100th time when all of the sudden a baby bird fell out of a nest right in front of me! Boy, did that make me forget about my hurt leg! Before my mom could even act, I sprinted across the yard and got that little bird so we could play. It was my first ever bird "catch" - and let me tell you, birds are more fun to play with than lizards.
Well, I don't know why but my mom starting yelling and screaming and swatting at me! I just ran right past her with my new friend safely in my mouth. My mom was screaming so loud I bet my neighbors wondered what her problem was. She kept coming after me and screaming so I just continued to run from her. She was SCARY!
Once I reached a safe part of the yard I kept trying to get the baby bird to play with me, but it wouldn't ... so I just started tossing that little guy up in the air and catching him. (I am getting really good at catching things in my mouth and he was no different). Then, I looked around and my mom had left! So, I picked up my friend and went to the backdoor to get in. But, my mom wouldn't open the door for me. I was even whining and wimpering and trying to show her my new friend but she told me "No!" So, I just continued to play with my new friend - until my dad came home! He said my mom called him on his cell phone and she was crying. She told him to get home from work ASAP (he had worked the 7pm-7am shift at the hospital the night before). I guess that scared my dad so he rushed home. He didn't even want to see me catch that bird in the air. He just opened my mouth and took my new friend away from me. Can you believe it?! The next thing I know my dad takes me inside and my mom starts calling me a murderer...what does that mean? It must not be a good thing because my mom didn't really pay much attention to me for the rest of the day. Maybe she doesn't like birds as much as I do?

When it rains, it pours...
Poor Biloxi! My baby brother has just been diagnosed with "eosinophilic granuloma", commonly referred to as "rodent ulcers". I feel very sad for him because his upper lip is swollen and red. My mom took him to the Vet 2 weeks ago and the Vet thought Biloxi had a tooth root abcess so Biloxi has been on antibiotics for the past few weeks. But, his mouth wasn't getting much better so my mom took him back to the Vet today. That's when we got the bad news. It appears this condition results from a weak immune system and is often a reaction to some allergy. There is no cure. Today, Biloxi got a shot of steroids to help treat his symptoms. My mom is pretty upset. She is trying to research more about this condition so we can help treat Biloxi. While my mom does the research online, I feel like maybe I should try to help out too. So, I'm gonna make sure my favorite brother gets to sleep without me interrupting him for the next week. That should make him heal faster! We can get back to playing when he feels better.

MIA
It's been a long time since my mom has written about our stories. I keep trying to tell her that the readers want updates on ALL my misadventures, but she doesn't listen. Well, I finally made her log on today to share some of the latest news. One of the reasons my stories have not been posted is because, well, I've been in a little bit of "medical" trouble lately. About a month ago I was outside one night and I tore my ACL. It hurts really bad and the Vet referred us to an orthopedic specialist for a surgery consult. We haven't gone yet because the Vet told my mom that it may heal on its own with a lot of rest and relaxation. Ha! I am not the best patient for that! I just pick up my left rear leg and tear around the yard - just like I did before I hurt myself. My mom yells at me, but I still don't listen. I was wondering if any of my doggie friends have torn an ACL - did you have surgery or wait for it to heal on its own?

Daddy's Boy
My brother is such a daddy's boy!
He is so "people-dependent" it's pitiful!
My dad closed the bedroom door so he could get some extra sleep and Jackson stood outside the door whimpering for the longest time. Finally, he got the point that the door was not going to open so he decided to just lay up against it! And, of course, he made the saddest, most pitiful, face to my mom so she would feel bad for him. I mean - is this level of dependence normal?

In Trouble AGAIN!
How was I NOT supposed to eat the package of sweet potatoes on the counter? Clearly this was not my fault! In fact, my new diet stresses the importance of only eating certain foods - which includes sweet potatoes.
So, here's what happened. While my mom and dad were at work I noticed a package of sweet potatoes (see that black styrofoam container in front my bed?!) on the kitchen counter (they were behind a steak knife). Well, I love sweet potatoes and I was not going to let a steak knife stand in my way. After careful deliberation with Jackson, I decided that I would grab the steak knife and hide it in my bed. Once that barrier was removed, I was able to grab the package of sweet potatoes and carry them to my bed.
The package was a little difficult to get into - the steak knife actually came in handy! Once I ate through the plastic wrap (and a little bit of the styrofoam) the sweet potatoes were all mine! They tasted a little different from the cooked ones my moms makes me, but I liked the crunchy texture.
Unfortunately, I couldn't hide the "evidence" before my mom got home. And, boy, was she mad at me! As soon as she came in the front door I knew I was in trouble...again! Just so you know, this "getting in trouble thing" isn't too bad (don't tell my mom or dad that). Getting in trouble means I get told I am a bad dog, I act remorseful and sorry, and my mom usually takes a picture or two of me getting in trouble. Well, this time my mom yelled at me a little longer than usual and finally I just yawned in her face! I mean, I just ate a lot of sweet potatoes, my tummy is full, and I would like to get back to my afternoon nap!
